SqueakDog Pet Photography: NOLA Oil Dogs

On January 14, 2011, 100 cats and dogs arrived in Indiana from New Orleans looking for new homes. Due to hurricane Katrina and the recent oil spill, there is a huge homeless pet population in the New Orleans area. The no-kill groups and shelters are overwhelmed, and animal control is quickly euthanizing many of the animals. The dogs and cats arrived in the bus pictured below, and after a long trip are ready to become Hoosiers! This incredible project was funded by  a grant from The Petfinder.com Foundation, The Animal Rescue Site’s Click-To-Give program, GreaterGood.org and Merial’s Paws to Save Program. Many, many thanks to Dawn and Troy Moore from Greensburg for starting this outstanding project. For more information, please click here go to the NOLA Oil Dog Facebook Page.

Christina and her incredible group of foster parents and volunteers from LUV A DOG are taking 16 of these dogs with the goal of finding them homes. I had the pleasure of meeting 11 of these cuties last weekend. I hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as I did…and if you’re considering adding a dog to your family, there’s never been a better time!:)

BAXTER:

Don’t let this boy’s intense eyes fool you-he is a sweetie! In New Orleans, he was stuck inside an abandoned apartment and wasn’t found for many days. I’m sure he will be forever grateful to a new Indiana family for giving him food, water, love, and stability!

BLANCHE/DOMINO:

I cracked up when I found out that this short girl was named after one of my favorite Golden Girls: Blanche Devereaux! But then I realized that her name has been changed to Domino. Oh well…the name was fun while it lasted! She is 24 pounds, about two years old, and has an adorable dot on the top of her head!

BREEZY:

There is a of personality in this little 10 pound body! Breezy is a friendly boy that would make a good lap dog…but if you have a squeaky ball, he will be a wonderful playmate as well!

CAGNEY & LACEY:

I must have watched  A LOT of TV as a kid because I am so entertained when dogs are named after television show characters. Who’s next, Laverne & Shirley?!! These 9 week old pit bull puppies are truly adorable-you have to love their wrinkly little heads!

Cagney:

Lacey:

COOPER:

As you can imagine, this handsome and gentle chocolate lab has several families already interested in him. He is as “chill” as a lab can be, and he’ll melt you with loving eyes!

DREW:

This puppy is full of life and energy! He has a striking look, and will certainly make a great playmate.

LOLA:

Anyone who has followed my blog knows that I have a bad habit of falling in love with at least one of the rescue dogs I photograph at Petco each month. This month it’s LOLA!! Ugh…her underbite and silly personality had me at “hello.” I could have taken pictures of her all day long. I’m hoping that her new owners will give me the opportunity to bring her into the studio someday. The family that adopts this girl will be one lucky family in my opinion!

JACKIE:

I love the wirey hair on this Broken Coated Jack Russel Terrier. You don’t see a hairdo like that everyday!

NOLAN:

Nolan is a beagle through and through. From his bark to his sniffer-if you’re a beagle guy or gal, this dog is the one for you!
